Sleeping Giant

If you are heading to the east side of the island, or you’re looking for a great, moderate hike, give the Nounou trail a try.  It is located just past Kapa’a, in Wailua.  When you drive by this mountain range you will notice that it looks like a giant sleeping on his back.  This is where it gets the appropriate nickname of “Sleeping Giant”.

This hike is a moderate hike and is 2 miles one way.  Make sure to take plenty of water and to wear hiking shoes.  It can get pretty toasty on the trail and the sun is strong in Hawaii, so wear sun protection.

The foliage and views on this trail are spectacular.  You will have the opportunity to see the ocean, Wailua River and Mt.Waialeale.  A picnic is definitely a must if you plan on hiking the full two miles up the trail.  The views at the top are incredible and, conveniently, there is a sheltered picnic area.  This is just another adventurous way to spend a day in Paradise.
